2009 Induction Ceremony
Saturday, March 7, 2009
Liberty Hall, Lawrence, Kansas

The 2009 Kansas Music Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Concert was a rousing success with a near sell-out crowd and outstanding performances by six of the inductees: Danny Cox, The Sensational Showmen, The Young Raiders, Billy Spears, Lee McBee, and Shooting Star. The weather was not as cooperative as we had hoped as thunderstorms moved through the area. Here's a photo (from the Lawrence Journal World) of the Young Raiders taken during their afternoon soundcheck:

Governor Kathleen Sebelius and her husband Gary, a member of the Hall of Fame's board of directors, made an appearance, and the audience included many previous inductees. During Shooting Star's set the dance floor was filled with lots of so called Shooting Star Maniacs, many of whom had traveled from across the country to attend the show and take pictures. Many of them stuck around to talk with members of the band afterwards. Original lead singer Gary West sang and surprised everyone with a medley of the group's early hits.
