Tickets going on sale for Kansas concerts with Wichita and Abilene TX symphonies Many have asked about tickets for the Kansas concerts at Wichita State University and Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene, TX. Tickets for those concerts will go on sale to the public this week. These concerts are two of many the band is doing with university orchestras. Doc Severinson and other music greats descend on Clay Center to pay tribute to Pauline Snodgrass Former Tonight Show bandleader Doc Severinson was expected to be among several professional musicians flying into northeast Kansas Sunday, August 22, to honor a former music teacher on her 99 th birthday.
The celebration for Pauline Snodgrass was expected to draw 1,200 people to a concert at the Martyn-Snodgrass Auditorium in Clay Center . The Salina Journal reported that others flying in for the party would be Los Angeles session musicians Gary Foster and Bill Booth, as well as many musicians from the Kansas City area. http://www.saljournal.com/news/story/Doc-Severinsen-Band Snodgrass is a former vocal music and piano teacher in Clay Center . Legendary saxman Abb Locke suffers stroke Kansas City's Abb Locke has had a stroke, and he is reportedly weak, but upbeat. He will begin physical therapy soon. Locke is one of the most legendary saxmen of the blues, and has been playing with Dave Weld and the Imperial Flames. Previous credits include reconding and playing with Buddy Guy, Willie Mabon, Earl Hooker, Albert Collins, Koko Taylor, Magic Sam, Eddie Clearwater, Lonnie Brooks, Muddy Waters, Elmore James, Howlin' Wolf, the Rolling Stones and many more.

Rising Suns join Iowa Hall of Fame on September 5 Eleven bands, including the Rising Suns (2007 KMHOF Inductee) from Kansas , five solo performers, three ballrooms, a disc jockey, and a radio station will be honored with induction into the Iowa Rock 'n Roll Music Association (IRRMA) Hall of Fame on Sunday, September 5, at the Roof Garden in Arnolds Park , IA. On Saturday, September 4, there will be music all day, a car show and lots of collectible music stuff for sale. All of the Saturday activities are free. Kansas announces concert with WSU Symphony In February 2009, the band Kansas (2005 KMHOF Inductee) did a show in Topeka with the Washburn Symphony Orchestra. Former Kansas City singer-songwriter Jeff Black has been in the studio working on his next album tentatively titled Plow Through the Mystic , which is slated for release this fall. It will be Black's first full release of new songs since 2005. Topeka 's Backlash is planning to take a six month hiatus to work on the band's fifth album. Before that the Backlash will play four dates beginning with a benefit for the Herrington Municipal Hospital on August 14. That'll be follow by gigs in Ozawkie and Topeka . The fourth and final show before the break will be for Vet Aid, but the venue has not been announced yet. The guys hope to have the album finished and for sale early in 2011. Backlash leader Shawn Ames says it's a miracle that the band has been able to keep together for 18 years. KMHOF inductee Chet Nichols has recently relocated from Chicago to Detroit . It didn't take him long to find a place to play his music. Chet's playing every Tuesday and Wednesday at AJ's Music Club in Ferndale , MI .

For Your Ears Only, a benefit sale for the University of Kansas Audio-Reader Network , will be held Friday, September 17 from 6-9 pm and Saturday, September 18 from 9 am-4 pm at the Douglas County Fairgrounds in Lawrence , 2121 Harper Street , Building #21. This year's sale will feature vintage and modern audio equipment, vinyl records, CDs, DVDs and more at great prices. Tickets for Friday night are $10 at the door and $7 in advance. Friday night's sale will include free food and door prizes. Admission is free on Saturday. All proceeds from the sale go to benefit Audio-Reader Network, a free reading and information service for the blind and print disabled. Boobs Rock to support breast cancer research Is there a better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than combining two awesome things: rock and boobs? The Boobs Rock: A Fest for Breasts fundraiser was yesterday, August 1, at the Brick in Kansas City . All proceeds raised will go directly to breast cancer research. The bands -- referred to as Rockers for Knockers -- were the Night Owls, the B-Dinas, Heather Thornton & Friends and the Jen Lawless Project, with Dirty Dorothy as the MC. As the women who put on this event say, "all good boobs need support." We couldn't agree more.

The UMKC Conservatory of Music and Dance has announced that the Conservatory Concert Jazz Band, under the direction of Bobby Watson has been invited by the city of Kurashiki , Japan , via the Heart of America Japan-America Society to perform in Kurashiki , Japan in October during Japan 's 25th National Cultural Festival in Okayama prefecture. The all-expenses paid trip will allow the students to perform for this prestigious festival while experiencing and learning about Japanese culture through Kurashiki , a sister city to Kansas City , Missouri . The group will travel to Japan October 30-November 8 to perform at the festival. During the festival, the Concert Jazz Band will perform for and interact with students from several schools, perform in a joint concert with Sakuyo University , and also as part of the final main stage concert at the Jazz Festival. The trip is underwritten by the city of Kurashiki , Japan , with special coordination from Kansas City 's Heart of America Japan-America Society. The Topeka Festival Singers will conduct auditions this Monday and Wednesday evenings at the First Presbyterian Church, 817 S.W. Harrison, for singers to perform with the mixed chorus during its four-concert 2010-11 season. Those seeking a spot in the group are asked to prepare two songs of contrasting style. An accompanist will be provided. In addition, there will be a short sight-singing exercise to perform. Positions are available in all sections of the ensemble. Melissa Etheridge on tour and in the news
While all is going great on her tour, Melissa's personal life seem to be anything but great. Her former partner, actress Tammy Lynn Michaels, has filed legal documents asking for full custody of their twin children. Etheridge filed for dissolution of their domestic partnership first, asking for joint custody. Both women cite irreconcilable differences as the reason to end their partnership. Tammy is also seeking spousal support, claiming to have a total of four dollars to her name. Meanwhile, Melissa's lawyer claims, ?Melissa is paying all of Tammy's expenses, which totals tens of thousands of dollars per month.? This story will obviously continue.

Tony Teebo continues tour Tony Teebo contacted us to say the Sensational Showmen gig in Ft. Scott June 25 sold out. Tony's in Spokane , WA , until the end of July. He did a five day stand in Chicago in March and has played in eleven states since then. After Spokane , he heads to Yellowstone National Park . Teebo has been performing almost full-time since 1963, when he fronted Pittsburg 's New Survivors. He's played in 36 states and 8 countries. He's also done numerous national and regional commercials and released nearly a dozen recordings over the years.
Clif Major recovering from recent illness Wichita guitar legend Clif Major was hospitalized recently with pneumonia. Tommy Crabb got a lot of Clif's friends together at Rockin' Daddy's for two nights of music to raise funds to help pay Major's medical bills.

Dogs? have reunited for first time since 1986 Together for the first time since 1986, Dogs? Have reunited and are hard at work on a new album. Original members Jerry Sumner, Barry Dirks, Stan Hartman and Conrad Stolze have returned with the addition of Randy Grohs on keyboards. Dogs? performed for the first time since 1986 as part of the Flicker Lounge 80s Band Reunion Bash at the Cotillion Ballroom in Wichita last August. KC Music and Arts Fest on July 16 Two of the Kansas City area's finest champions of the arts, the Midwest Music Foundation and Review Publishing , are teaming up in a few weeks for a special evening that'll pair local music and local visual arts. Called "We Are Synaesthetic," the event will feature sixteen local-ish artists displaying work inspired by, interpretive of, or representational of music. Original works will be for sale, and all proceeds go to the two organizations. Dead Voices , Atlantic Fadeout , and the Wires will all play sets. There will be refreshments. It's happening Friday, July 16, at the Living Room (2nd floor, 1818 McGee), which is the art space that used to house the Pearl Gallery.
